Other Notes:

Loss in the Womb or at Birth is a devastating loss, and one that brings with it an intense grief – with its own unique nuances, dynamics and secondary hurts & injuries.

Moreover, it’s a loss that society has, until recent times, largely underrated and almost ignored – leaving the bereaved couple to face a dense shroud of silence.

This loss also highlights a number of other serious issues that require acknowledgement and careful understanding – including anxiety and fears for the future, the impact of such a loss on men, the gender differences of grieving parents, society’s secondary hurts, and how to validate and honour such a loss.

This course is for staff in maternity & midwifery departments, women’s services, community nurses, and hospital chaplains. It will also be valuable for counsellors, psychotherapists, and any other practitioner who finds themselves supporting bereaved by this type of loss.
